Due to the wide range of uses of rods, the market has various quality requirements for them. According to different uses, mechanical strength, cold workability, hot workability, free cutting performance and wear resistance are also emphasized. The general requirements are: to improve the internal quality, according to the type of deep processing, the material itself should have suitable properties to reduce the deep processing procedures and improve the performance of the final product.


Building materials are required to maintain a certain elongation at a higher yield strength. Rebars used as building materials are mainly to ensure chemical composition and good weldability, and require uniform and stable physical properties to facilitate cold bending and have certain corrosion resistance. As a building material, improving the dimensional accuracy and uniformity of mechanical properties can save a lot of steel, and also reduce turning and costs for machining shafts.


Mechanical parts require good machining performance. After processing, in order to ensure the mechanical properties during use, heat treatment such as quenching, normalizing or carburizing is also required. Some products also need coating, painting, coating and other surface treatment.


The controlled rolling and controlled cooling of the bar can also improve the performance, which can be achieved through process control during the rolling process.


In terms of standards for stainless steel bar rolling, American, British, German, French, Russian, Japanese and international standards are more advanced, among which the American standard has the strictest dimensional tolerances. The latest standards related to national stainless steel hot-rolled profiles are: American ASTMA276 "Standard Specification for Stainless Steel and Heat-resistant Steel Bars and Sections"; American ASTMA484/A484M "General Requirements for Stainless and Heat-resistant Steel Bars, Billets and Forgings"; German DIN17440 "Stainless steel sheet, hot-rolled strip, wire rod, drawn wire rod, steel bar, forging and billet technical delivery conditions"; Japan JlS64304 "stainless steel bar". In the early 1980s, my country combined the relevant standards of the United States, Japan, Germany, the former Soviet Union and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and focused on the Japanese JIS stainless steel bar standard to formulate the national standard GB1220-92 for stainless steel bars, while referring to foreign standards. Standard, the national standard GB4356-84 for stainless steel wire rods has been formulated, which makes the steel series more complete, and adopts international general grades such as the United States and Japan. Some stainless steel grades in my country correspond to American standard grades, as shown in Table 1. At the same time, the commonly used grades in my country are retained, making it basically the same as the stainless steel grades in developed countries such as the United States, and the versatility is stronger. Compared with developed countries, the gap in the standard itself has narrowed a lot, but the surface quality and dimensional tolerance are poor, and the physical level gap is large.
