Recycled Metals Industry Survey: Expected to Reach $390 Million by 2028

Published Date: 2022-07-24
The development of China's recycled metal industry is characterized by favorable policies and stable operation of the recycled metal industry. The new environmental protection law for recycled metals began to be implemented. It is expected that the pollutant discharge standards for the recycled non-ferrous metal industry and the normative conditions for the lead and zinc industry will be issued during the year. The tightening of recycled metal policies is expected to boost the standardization of the recycled metal zinc industry and accelerate industrial upgrading.

The replacement ratio of recycled metal is already around 40%, and in 2020, the replacement ratio of recycled lead is expected to reach 50%~55%. There are many sources of recycled zinc. However, because there are too many types of sources and large differences in quality, it is difficult to form a large-scale production of recycled metals. There are less than 20 secondary lead enterprises with a production scale of more than 20,000 tons. Among them, Yunnan Xiangyun Feilong and Honghe Zinc Union are led by secondary metals. Most of the enterprises with a scale of less than 20,000 tons per year are concentrated in areas where galvanizing plants are more concentrated, such as Hebei.

Data shows that secondary zinc accounts for 3.8% of zinc production. In 2014, the output of the top 10 lead and zinc smelting enterprises accounted for 55.7% and 50.5% of the national output respectively. In 2015, it reached about 58% and 52%, which is close to the 60% of lead and 60% of zinc in the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan". With the implementation of the environmental protection law, the increasingly fierce market competition and the test of capital for enterprises, the process of increasing the concentration of enterprises has accelerated. Zinc 65%.

In addition, data provided by the Recycled Metals Branch of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association shows that in the first three quarters of recycled metals, the total output of recycled copper, aluminum, lead and zinc was about 8.5 million tons, of which 2 million tons of recycled copper, 4.2 million tons of recycled aluminum, and Lead is 1.2 million tons and secondary zinc is 1.1 million tons. The total output of secondary metal industry is expected to reach 13.7 million tons. Compared with 12.35 million tons in 2015, secondary metal achieved a slight increase, with a year-on-year growth rate of about 2.8%.

Relevant data on recycled metals show that during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the replacement of primary lead by secondary lead in lead products will become an inevitable trend, and the replacement ratio of recycled metal is already around 40%. In 2020, the replacement ratio of recycled lead is expected to reach 50%~ 55%. There are many sources of recycled zinc. However, because there are too many types of sources and large differences in quality, it is difficult to form a large-scale production of recycled metals.
